"Life in Buffalo"

The first time that my sponsors told me: You will be studying English in Buffalo I did not how to answer; because, I did not know anything about Buffalo city. After they notified me my husband searched in the Internet for where Buffalo is, and the features of the city. I was very frightened when he told me about the Buffalo winter and the precautions that I should take. When I arrived I saw the snow for the first time. Was amazing, but I remember too my body shaking by the cold. After one week I could enjoy of the snow, but I felt that the winter was too long. After the winter I was very anxious to see the spring. I still remember how the leaves came to life. Suddenly the gray and white environment changed to one a beautiful green. As a matter of fact right now life here is more enjoyable: I can do different and interesting activities like practicing my favorite sport – basketball- or walking trough the city enjoying the new colors of nature. Buffalo has a diversity of places where people can spent a wonderful time doing their favorites hobbies; for instance, there are many golf courses, parks, movie theaters, libraries, gyms etc. I do not know anything about nocturnal places, but I am sure that here internationals students can develop their own style of life according their interests, and at the same time enjoy of the English program.

Have you ever been outside of your home city? Or have you ever gotten the opportunity to choose your new home? If you have lived in a place beside Buffalo, you have never seen the real life. Therefore, if you are looking for a place to live in, you must choose Buffalo as a residence. Living in Buffalo has a lot of advantages. First of all, the atmosphere of this city helps you to study since it is a quite city so that you will not see the crowded that you have seen in your home city. It makes you also relax as well. Another advantage is that the marketing services are really helpful and you can see them anywhere in Buffalo. For instance, in each area you either see TOPS or WEGMANS. So, you will get your needs pretty easy. In addition, the transportations are very good and you can take the busses or the train to get to any place you want in this amazing city. Overall, this is the life in Buffalo so if you are still looking for a city or university, don't be afraid to choose Buffalo. Then, have a good life in any place you choose.

"20 Minute City"

When I first moved to Buffalo from Ontario, Canada, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I could get from one place to another place. This is especially delightful for anyone who has been stuck in rush-hour traffic in Toronto. There, a typical 30 minute drive can be as long as 60-90 minutes, and that occurs only when there are no traffic accidents or Toronto Blue jays games. Then, it's not unusual to be delayed three hours. So you can understand my surprise when I asked my neighbor here in Buffalo, "How long does it take to get to the airport?" Their answer was, "twenty minutes." When I asked, "How long does it take to get to the zoo?" Again, the answer was always, "twenty minutes." I soon realized that it was not necessary to ask "How long...?" anymore. The answer was always the same. Consequently, I've decided to call the city of Buffalo the "Twenty Minute City."

Life in Buffalo

My father-in-law lived in Buffalo for more than 1o years. He loves this city, even though the winter in Buffalo is very long. Before I couldn't imagine how beautiful Buffalo is, and how could this city made my father-in-law so fascinated. After I lived here for several weeks, I understand him. Buffalo is really a beautiful and convenient city.

Buffalo is beautiful, especially in the Summer. Because of its unique location, many tourists come to Buffalo. They come from different countries to enjoy the sunshine in Buffalo, then they travel to the great Niagara Falls and Canada. People live in Buffalo are very kind and polite. They are welcome you either travel or study. I went to a concert with my husband at the first time when I just arrived her. We can't find our seats. When we were looking at our tickets and trying to find our seats back and forth, people who sat there asked us with smile:" Can I help you?". Thankful their help, we found our seats and enjoyed the concert finally. Next time, if you have any trouble on finding any places, just ask for people walking around you. I believe people will be pleased to help you at any time.

It's really convenient for me to buy any kinds of food. "SMS" is a big supermarket, which price of food there is cheaper than any other supermarket. Because it is a club supermarket, which means you have to join as a membership and pay the $40 annual fee so you can go to SMS and shop there. I think it's a good deal for you if you go and shop at SMS often. You can buy not only food, but also consumer goods. It's also cheaper. But the disadvantage of SMS is that they don't have as many kinds of food to sell as Wegmans or Tops. Wegmans and Tops have many branches in Buffalo. Both of Wegmans and Tops are have discount card. You can apply for it at the service center of any of the branches, and it's free. Each week they will list all the discount food on their catalog. You can compare their price then decide where to buy. I prefer Wegmans. Because the price is cheaper than Tops, and they have their own brand of food. If you come from Asian, you can find sushi and Chinese food in Wegmans. Each Friday and Sunday, there will be a shuttle bus takes you from South Campus to Wegmans and some other Malls. But Tops has its advantage. It only takes you 5 minutes to walk from South Campus to TOPS. There is another shopping place I want to introduce is " Walmart". You can find many kinds of consumer goods in Walmart with low prices.

In conclusion, Buffalo is a good place. In Summer, it's a good time for you to travel. In winter, it's also a right place for students to study at home or school. Come and enjoy your life in Buffalo, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Buffalo Wings
Have you ever heard the Buffalo wings or chicken wings before? It is really the most popular food in Buffalo. Buffalo wings are chicken wing sections (called flats and drums), deep fried, and coated in sauce. Buffalo wings are named after the city of Buffalo, New York where they originated, and the appellation "buffalo" is now commonly applied to foodstuffs other than wings that are seasoned with the sauce or close variations on it.
Last weekend, my friend take me to the Buffalo Wild Wings, taste the delicious wings, and heard a interesting story about the origination of Buffalo wings. My friend told me Buffalo wings were first prepared at the Anchor Bar on Main Street, near the corner of North Street, Buffalo, on October 3, 1964. Teressa Bellissimo, co-owner of the Anchor Bar with her husband Frank, had the idea of deep frying chicken wings and tossing them in Frank's RedHot sauce for her son Dominic and his friends. One evening, on a spur of the moment, Teressa presented her son with a deep-fried and sauced creation, and they were an instant hit. At the time the recipe was created, chicken wings were typically thrown away or reserved for making stock.
After heard this story, do you really want to go to the Anchor Bar? My answer is yse. But Anchor Bar is located in downtown; it is far from South campus and North campus. I just ate wings in Buffalo Wild Wings(3035 Niagara Falls Boulevard, Amherst)which is the nearest one to North campus. This restaurant’s full name is Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar. It is a sports bar and restaurant franchise in the United States that is best-known for its buffalo wings. There are multiple large screen televisions viewable from all seats and a bar. People can watch sports game, drink and have a party in Buffalo Wild Wings.
The food in Buffalo Wild Wings is very attractive. There are 14 signature sauces for wings in order from mildest to hottest, but the original Buffalo sauce is composed of only six ingredients: cayenne pepper sauce, white vinegar, butter, salt, and garlic. The hottest sauce is Blazin which is very pungent. If you like spicy, you can challenge it. Besides wings, the restaurants also feature a full menu of salads, appetizers, burgers, and specialty drinks.
There may be another delicious food waiting for you discovering them. Enjoy your life at Buffalo, you will find a lot of interests here!

Life At Buffalo

"Is there a lot of buffalo in the city?" this is the first thought came to my mind when I heard about Buffalo. After I have arrived to this beautiful city, I found there is no buffalo but full of history, traditional innovation, and culturally and ethically diverse.

I have been study at here for around 3 weeks. The only word I could describe about UB and ELI is awesome! All the Summer ELI student who live on campus likes me are been placed in Clement Hall which is at South Campus. Unlike North Campus, South Campus has many historical buildings. When I first reached South Campus, I was really attract by those artistic edifice. For my surprise, South Campus is also a convenient place as there are a supermarket directly across the street and several restaurant within walking distance.

Our class of IEP is at North Campus. North Campus is a much more modern place with contemporary buildings and excellent facilities which provide a perfect environment for study. Something you might be felt surprise is that you can see squirrel and opossum everywhere in the campus and they are not afraid of people!

There are a lot of tourist attractions in Buffalo as well. World famous Niagara Falls must be the best attractions! The American Falls is very near to Buffalo and it really provide the beautiful scenery that all the visitors would like to see. It looks spectacular at night as it will lit with various combination of colourful lights. Able to surround by mother nature's most beautiful creation makes me feel everything will be fine.

Finally, I would like to introduce some wonderful restaurant in Buffalo. "Siena" is a restaurant sale Italian food. Their foods are delicious but the price is slightly expensive. For those who like to taste Greek Dishes, I would strongly recommend "Townes"! It has nice atmosphere and broad spaces for their customer. One attraction of this restaurant is that there is a large window on their roof, so whenever you are having your meal at there you can find yourself shower in the warmly sunshine.

Buffalo is really a great city to stay and study.Even it may not be as modern as those large city, you will find how lovely here are if you have been lived at here.

Bike Path in Buffalo

My hobby is to ride a bicycle. Everyday I am enjoying riding my cheep bicycle which I bought in Target (supermarket) in the bike path close to the UB's north campus. This bike path has a lot of enjoyable points, and it is also good as a walking path, so I highly want to recommend it to you.
First, I want to explain about the location of this bike path. It is located on east to north campus. It starts from Forest Rd. and ends in Ellicott Creek Park. The total length is approximately 5 miles. I could not find the name of this path, so I named "Ellicott Creek Path" by myself. E.C.Path has many narrow streets which go through different entrance, so you can join to this path wherever you can join. One of these narrow street connects to UB's north campus. From Forest Rd., it is about 2 miles. After the intensive study of ELI, you can do your exercise directly from UB.
Second, I want you imagine the atmosphere of this path. Everyday there are lots of people on this path. Not only evening but also in early morning people are doing bicycle riding, running, and walking. According to my observation, the majority is walking. Then, we can see bicycle and a little running people. Since this path is quite long, if you do these exercises very hard, you will take off your clothes. Therefore, we can see lots of different fashion there. E.C.Path is surrounded by forests. Going through the path, fresh green smell will come into your nose. I am not sure, though, there are thousand kinds of plants. Sometimes, you can see little animals such as birds, squirrels, and turtles etc... Dandelion is blooming recently, yet this is annoy. If you like to watch flowers, you can explore other flowers of this area.
Third, I want to write about my subjective aspects about this path. As I said above, we can see a lot of walkers there. The most interesting thing of going through this path is to watch people. Especially each walker has each feature, so they will make you enjoy. For instance, I often see sweet couple who looks like over 70 years old. They are taking their hands each other, and walking with smile, laughter, and discussing. By chance you might be able to hear their talking. This will be our English listening practice. Or, some are walking with their dogs. Watching dogs faces, we can enjoy our exercise. Some dogs are acting against their owners. Some are sticking them. Since I am a dog person, I can not stop watching their cute and funny behavior. If you stop, and ask them to play with dogs, then you can have fun. This also will be the nice opportunity to speak English or make friends. What made me surprise the most was people who are exercising there are very friendly. They try to say "hi" friendly to us. Just saying "hi" to them will make your day brilliant. All in all, this path will make you refresh.
For these reasons, I would like to recommend E.C.Path to you as a exercising spot. Even though now you are living far away from North Campus, you should take a look this path. I am sure that this path will give you some benefit.

Buffalo is a beautiful city, especially in summer. There are many greens. And also, there are many events.
Shakespeare in Delaware Park is one of events. It has been a summer traditional in Buffalo since 1976. It is the country's second most successful outdoor Shakesoeare festival in terms of audience, attracting an average of 50,000 patrons each summer. This festival takes place in a historic park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, father of landscape architecture, and the nation's most famous parkmaker. The setting stands behind the park's rose garden. In this beautiful setting under the star, Shakespear's stories are played by actors and actresses.
And you don't forget about July 4th. Fireworks Celebration is to be held. This event takes place on July 3rd at Seneca Events Center, Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel. It must be a gorgeous event! You can go to the event with nice clothes.
On June 9th, there will be a USA Rugby national collegiate all star championship game at northamton park. College allstars teams representing seven regions in the USA compete for the National Allstar Championship. If you are crazy for rugby, you can't miss it. The kickoff is 10am.
The Allentown Art Festival will take place in the Allentown on Saturday ,June 9th and June 10th,from 11am to 6pm. It is historic preservation district of Buffalo. Ten thousand art patrons visit the festival to enjoy it. There are more than 400 exhibitions which presents art and crafts. This year, the festival will be 50th. A part of proceeds will be donated to Art Scholarships in NY State School.
To tell the truth ,there are not so many places in Buffalo to play-like dancing, night club, and so on.But there are many academic events in Buffalo. If you are an academic person, you will be a good citizen in Buffalo.

“Buying in Buffalo”

There is something foreign people need the first time they arrive here in Buffalo: “Everything.” Therefore, the first thing someone wants to do id buy. However, depends of the native country, some people can feel that the prices of things in Buffalo are more expensive than they are accustom. In this case, here are some advice about what to do to buy everything and save a little of money at the same time.

There are many malls around Buffalo; some of them are less expensive than other. However, in U.S. people celebrate many holydays such as father day, mother day, Independence Day, Christmas, and more. Usually, in these days stores and malls have special discount and offers in their products. So, this is a good occasion to buy taking advantage of the good deals.

In the ELI, there is service where everybody can publish their product in order to sell them. Always, in the start of each semester or season, people move to other state or to home selling their things in the process. Usually, they sell almost new products at good prices. Here, is a good opportunity to buy issues, just have to answer the email (not replying to the ELI email, instead using the seller email address) and negotiate the what, the where, and the when.

Finally, if you need something special you can try, using a debit or credit card, buying on internet. Always take in account the reputation of the company to avoid deceive. Companies such as Amazon.com and Ebay.com are good companies you can trust in them. Then, just put your address and done.

For all of this, buying in Buffalo is really a fascinating experience. Buying from malls, from another student o person, and from internet are ways you can choose. But, always be careful, buying in Buffalo is so funny that maybe can be categorized as an addiction.

Needless to say that UB provide a great environment for students to live. No matter studying, eating, or recreation, it is always easy for all the students.

For the students who want to study hard, there many resources available around the campus. Libraries provide a gorgeous resources for students to do the research or improve their knowledge. They also have many spaces for students to study. Outside the libraries, there are many open spaces everywhere for studying. Of course, you can have a drink or a meal at the same time.

Are you hungry? It is without saying that, there are several kinds of traditional American food waiting for you to explore them. For those who have critical favor, they can challenge the foreign food in many restaurants on campus. Also, if you miss the favor of your own country, you may find one restaurant to satisfy your favor.

Recreation never been far away from you. The abundant recreation makes the life in school fascinated. Gym, swimming pool, basketball and whatever you want, they are always there waiting for you. Art gallery and theaters are other choices for you. You can enjoy the atmosphere there and have a wonderful time.

Life is never easy in the modern world, but it is really enjoyable in the UB campus.

Life in Buffalo : A "Wild Kingdom" in the Middle of the City.

A Hawk is sitting on a roof of a bank which is located on the Main Street. A group of seagulls are flying and shouting around the bird, and taking some aggressive gestures to try to threaten it because the enemy snatched one of their colleagues away. But the hawk doesn't seem to be frightened by the threatening seagulls, and begins to enjoy his dinner. There are some people stopping and watching the wild scene, and the feathers of the prey are fluttering over the street. Eventually, the hawk flies away with the prey gripped in its talons, and a man exclaims, "A wild kingdom in the middle of the city!!"

You can meet the similar situations occasionally in Buffalo because there are lots of wild animals that live in the city. You can meet lots of wild animals in the front yard of your house, on the U.B. campus, and on the road. If you go to the suburbs, you might meet deer and bears. The animals of Buffalo seem not to fear human beings. For example, you can be familiar with the squirrels approaching very near to you without fear in front of the Health Science Library. Rabbits are known as very timid animals in general, but the rabbits in Buffalo seem not so timid. At night, you might meet a skunk which doesn't mind your presence when you are taking a walk around your apartments or resident halls. Some birds, like seagulls and Canadian Geese, are the rulers of lakes, rivers, and even roads.

It seems that people who live in Buffalo also don't want to disturb the animals. Of course, it might be because of the government's policies concerned with conservation of nature. Like other countries, there also was the period that people have no idea of conservation of nature. For example, the buffalo no longer lives in Buffalo. However, nowadays, it seems that not only the laws, but also the awareness about the importance of protecting nature make it possible to preserve the wild animals.

It impresses the international students, especially those of us who are from a big city - like Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai or Taipei, that one of the biggest cites in New York State has such a wonderful environment, in which human beings and wild animals live together. It is an amazing experience to watch a real documentary movie of wild kingdom in the middle in the city.
